The data appears credible and is repeated in multiple sources. The date of birth clearly comes from the baptism register of Graun. The date of death of Maria Stecherin can be identified by the preceding plus sign in Wopfner's work.

I noticed a strange detail in the baptism register: the heading on the left-hand page clearly shows 1637, and the page ends with 30 January. The right-hand page continues with 1 February, but in its heading only “38” can still be recognized. Whether these are the last digits of the year or something else cannot be determined. Somehow the entire baptism register gives the impression that the pages may have become mixed up and were later reassembled. In that case, the sequence of months may simply have fitted by chance, but shifted by one year. This would cast some doubt on Gabriel's date of birth. However, it is also possible that a later misplaced page was included in the scan.

The parents present a more difficult problem. Paul is clear enough, but Walburga “Facschig” is very unusual, since Paul was married only twice: first to Christina Aberartin and, according to Wopfner, in a second marriage to Walburga Waggin. The ending “-ig” in Facschig is probably easy to explain. On these pages, many feminine forms end in “-ig”, possibly just a careless spelling habit of the parish priest. It is almost certainly meant to be “-in”, making the name “Facschin”. However, Wopfner's manuscript lists “Wallburg Waggin” as the mother. How can this “Walburga Facschin” from the baptism register be reconciled with Waggin? After examining the text, an expert in old handwriting explained the following to me: “On the opposite page of the baptism register, the name Märcschin appears twice. Apparently, the writer liked to insert a ‘c’ before ‘sch’. The surname Mark also appears there. It looks as though he transformed a ‘k’ into ‘csch’, perhaps to make the ending ‘in’ easier to pronounce. Thus Mark becomes Märcschin, and perhaps Fack or Fak becomes Facschin. In that case, it could even mean Wag, Wagg, or Waggin!”

For this reason, I have retained the name WAGGIN.
