Irimbert worked all his life in the "Steyr-Werke". His birthplace Graz was a coincidence, as his parents were only passing through at the time.

His great passion was the restoration of vintage cars, especially "Steyr" models, with the Grossglockner car, a Steyr 100, standing out in particular.

Excerpt from the Chronicle of the Patscheider Family (written by Irimbert Patscheider in 1990):

When I, Irimbert born on 8.4.1928, was at home alone with my grandmother, I had to pray the rosary with her. This counts among my first memories, but even today I still do not know the rosary by heart.

I was supposed to put "Sommer" (summer) into the box with the letters, but unfortunately I wrote "Somer" - with only one „m”. Nevertheless, I got straight A’s – after all, my father had taken me out of first grade and taught me himself, because I had been vaccinated without his knowledge.

After the early death of my father we moved to my mother’s homeland, to Troppau. I attended the Schiller School and got my first bicycle, with which I already rode to Braunsdorf back then.

At Christmas 1937 I was beaten up by so-called Water Poles and suffered such a great loss of blood that I could only return to school in mid-January.

Shortly afterwards we went to Tyrol for the first time (still before the annexation to Germany). In the summer holidays of 1938 we went back to Tyrol to stay there permanently. Thus, I neither experienced the Anschluss of Austria to Germany nor the annexation of the Sudetenland.

After attending school in Mayrhofen, Munich, Solbad Hall, Zell am Ziller and Innsbruck, I began in Sept. 1943 to work as a farm laborer with Johann Sailer, known as Kerscher, in Vomp near Schwaz. Now the hand of war also reached us. At the time of the assassination attempt on Hitler in 1944, I was in a pre-military training camp near Frankfurt an der Oder and was able to visit Troppau once more.

Then I was in the Volkssturm in Rotholz, later in the last year of the war in Pfunds with the "Reichsarbeitsdienst" (Reich Labor Service).

In March 1945 I received a draft order to the Waffen-SS in Berlin, but fortunately only made it as far as Leoben. In Leoben the war ended, and on foot and by hitchhiking I returned to Tyrol, but only as far as Wörgl, where my comrades and I were captured by the Americans. But with the help of the brother-in-law of my boss in Vomp who lived there, we managed to escape, and I arrived safely in the Zillertal.

Now my mother was Austrian through her marriage, but my sister and I were stateless, which also meant that I could not leave my job in agriculture.

Finally, in 1948, the then Governor of Tyrol, Weisgatterer, granted us Austrian citizenship, since our father had been born in Tyrol, at the bargain price of 80 S.

In November 1948 my mother and I went to Steyr, where, despite the advanced school year, I was admitted to the Federal Technical School for Automobile Engineering.

Now my school days also came to an end for me, already over twenty years old. On a Friday they ended, and the following Monday, 10.6.1951, I began to work in the Steyr factories.

After some stays abroad, I went to Rio de Janeiro at the end of 1953 to set up a Steyr truck assembly plant there for the local company Panambra S.A. After my return from that war-torn country (1955), I worked in customer service for Steyr in Germany.

Already during my school days in Steyr I had met Miss Ernestine Vorderwinkler. Now we were also financially able to marry. The wedding took place on 22.10.1955 in the pilgrimage church of Christkindl.
